There are two types of FDA-approved allergy immunotherapy treatments⁷'⁸:
Sublingual immunotherapy tablets
Sublingual immunotherapy tablets, which dissolve when placed under the tongue, are prescription medications taken once daily. You take the first dose at the doctor’s office. After the first dose, you can take the tablet at home.⁹
Subcutaneous immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, has been available for decades. The shots contain extracts that are individually mixed by an allergist based on your allergy triggers and are administered in the allergist’s office.
